In October 2021, County YWCA Westmoreland transitioned from an annual used book sale to opening a year-round used bookstore. Over 20 years ago, County YWCA Westmoreland began collecting used books for sale to support its literacy program.
The bookstore is located in the basement of the YWCA Mansion, 424 N. Main St. in Greensburg, and is open Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and Thursdays from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. and the first Saturday of the month from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. pm
“We want to let the community know about all the educational, entertaining and resourceful books we have in our bookstore,” said Carol Palcic, YWCA Executive Director. “Books are sold by the thumb, and we also wanted to have monthly promotions to invite people in and take advantage of everything we have to offer.”
Monthly bookstore promotions begin March 2 for Dr. Suess’s Birthday – National Reading Day, where you can dress up as your favorite Dr. Suess character and receive a free book.
To celebrate National Penny Day, which takes place in early April, on March 31, you can buy one book and get a second for 1 penny.
For Memorial Day, all veterans receive a free book on May 31.
On June 7, National Cancer Survivor Day, all cancer patients and survivors receive a free book.
