Back when the first Doctor strange the movie is out, lead actor Benedict Cumberbatch has often spoken about visiting a comic book store in New York near where the movie was shot fully clothed Doctor strange royal badges. A few photos taken by people inside the store at the time have since been uploaded, and recently the film’s director Scott Derrickson shared the full video he made of the incident with the following message.

The video begins with Cumberbatch casually strolling around the comic book store, where people instantly recognize him. The actor then goes to the front desk to speak to the owner, who immediately pulls out an edition of a Doctor strange comic book to compare with the look of Cumberbatch. A series of photos later, the actor apologizes for returning to filming, at which point the store owner tells him that there is always a job waiting for him in the store if he wishes. Benedict Cumberbatch jokingly referred to the incident in later interviews.

“I walked into a comic book store on the last day of filming in New York [dressed as Doctor Strange]. I did not buy a comic book, but I offered my services. I said, ‘Look, if the movie doesn’t work, I’ll come stack the shelves for you.’

The whole incident is a cool and rare cross between the cinematic juggernaut that is the MCU and the comic book world that spawned the movement in the first place. While showrunners like Kevin Feige and the Russo Brothers are avowed comic book fans with a deep knowledge of the lore they carry on for their films, actors are often less aware of the comedic history of superheroes than they are. they play on screen. Cumberbatch and Derrickson’s recognition of the comic book culture that gave birth to Doctor Strange is the kind of fan service audiences love even more than the Easter eggs in the movies referencing the comics.

From its inception, Cumberbatch’s Doctor Strange established itself as a full member of the MCU, and his upcoming standalone film titled Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness is going to kick things up a notch by opening the doors to the MCU Multiverse. The film will see Strange discover an endless number of Alternate Earths with a plethora of variations of existing superheroes, and possibly new ones too, like the Fantastic Four and the X-Men.

Directed by Sam Raimi, Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness stars Benedict Cumberbatch, with Chiwetel Ejiofor returning as Baron Mordo, and Elizabeth Olsen, who will be seen in a supporting role as Wanda Maximoff aka Scarlet Witch. The film is currently set to hit theaters on March 25, 2022 if filming is completed on time.
