Promoting knowledge-based economy vital for economic progress: Governor of Punjab
Punjab Governor Muhammad Balighur Rehman said economic progress cannot be achieved without promoting a knowledge-based economy.
He was addressing the 18th convocation of Islamia University Bahawalpur on Saturday.
He said the government of PML(N) is committed to the welfare of young people despite financial constraints.
He asked the students to devote their energies and skills to the country and the nation.
While praising the performance of Islamia University, he commended the faculty members, students and staff of the university for the fact that overall IUB has moved from position 1000-1200 to position 801 -1000.
Earlier, Vice Chancellor of Islamia University, Bahawalpur Engineer Prof. Dr. Athar Mehboob said in his welcome speech that twenty thousand students of the university are awarded scholarships worth more than one billion rupees in the current financial year.
According to Radio Pakistan correspondent Sajjad Parvez, Governor of Punjab Muhammad Balighur Rehman also handed out diplomas to eight PhD students and 71 MPhil scholars while awarding sixty-seven gold medals, fifty-four silver medals to BS students , BSc, MA, MCs, Disciplines.
