Montell Fish has just released his r&b album, JAMIE on July 22 and if you’re going through a breakup or have been through a breakup before, then this album is for you (so basically everyone).
The album is about the grieving process we go through when a relationship is over and you still feel all those emotions for that other person. It’s hard to see at first that what’s happening is happening for a reason, especially when you have that love and attachment towards them.
If you’re not sure you want to listen to the album, don’t worry because these 5 lyrics will help you decide.

5 ‘JAMIE’ LYRICS THAT YOU REAL IN
1.) “AND I KNOW I AM NOT PERFECT WITH LOVE BUT MAYBE I COULD BE WORTH YOUR LOVE” ~ FALLING IN LOVE WITH YOU.
These lyrics come from the third track of the album “Fall in Love with You”. .
Although there are only two choruses in this song and one verse, Montell Fish is able to haunt the listener with this sense of pain and longing through the minimal lyrics and haunting melody.
These words are so beautiful and hurtful at the same time. It’s about self-reflection and hope for our desire to be loved by the person we want. We are often afraid of not being up to the level of the person we are caring for, there is always this concern that someone else can give him better, give him more. Fish asks that other person for a chance to show that even though he made mistakes, he can prove to them how much he cares.
2.) “I CLING TO THE CROSS FOR YOU. I WILL GIVE IT EVERYTHING FOR YOU” ~ DROP MYSELF JUST FOR YOU
These lyrics come from the eighth track of JAMIE“I destroy myself just for you”.
This song is about the feeling of giving your all to someone and a relationship, but it’s not enough. It’s about how we allow ourselves to suffer for what we think is love and something worth suffering for.

These lyrics have a religious connotation, nodding to how, in the Catholic faith, it is believed that God caused his son Jesus to die on a cross so that he could save the sins of mankind in the afterlife. Fish says he would do whatever it takes for that other person no matter how much they suffer because it would show them how much he loves them.
3.) “AND THOUGH YOU HARM ME AND OFTEN I AM SAD, I AM HERE FOR YOU” ~ I CAN’T LOVE YOU TOO
This is the tenth and final track on the album, “I Can’t Love You This Much”.
This song is accepting that you can’t let go of someone and Fish sings it in a way that makes it sound like he’s almost crying through the song you can not only hear the pain in his voice but the sadness in the realization he came to.
At one point or another, we’ve all had a relationship with someone, whether romantic, platonic, or even familial where the other person would often hurt us, through words or actions, but we just can’t to abandon them. For some reason, there’s this attraction to them that we can’t identify, but we just can’t sever ties, even though we know it’s for the best. This acceptance with which we agree to accept less than we deserve can be a very telling and sad thing.
4.) “A THOUSAND MILES BEYOND BUT YOU’RE STILL IN CONTROL” ~ AND I’M GOING A THOUSAND MILES
These lyrics are taken from the album’s fourth song, “Et j’irais mille miles”.
This song is about the hold a person can have over us, even after we are no longer with them. In a relationship, you become intertwined with another person, and when you break up, you can feel like a part of you is gone and there’s this loss of control. We miss each other so much and care so much that we cling to what we can of her.
In these lyrics it says that no matter how far you go, or how long we are apart, you will always have this hold on me. We can often feel when a relationship is over and some time has passed that we are free and able to move on, this is not always the case. Any reminder of that person’s existence and what they meant, or still mean to us, can send us straight down a spiral rabbit hole.
5.) “IS IT HEALTHY TO LOVE THIS?” ~JAMIE
It comes from the first track of the disc of the same name, “Jamie”.
It’s the first song on the disc, it sets the tone for the whole album. It shows us that this is an album about letting go while trying to hold on, it’s about love and loss, grief, pain; all the hard parts of loving someone you are no longer with.
This line is actually the last line of the song and comes from the outro. I found this so interesting because it’s a question we often ask ourselves, because we can often feel overwhelmed with the amount of care we have for another person, it can be very draining, which to turn does not always feel healthy.
