ISLE OF WIGHT ARTS SOCIETY CELEBRATES 40TH ANNIVERSARY – Island Echo

Members of the Isle of Wight Arts Society recently gathered for a special 40th anniversary luncheon at the Lakeside Hotel & Spa.

Members enjoyed a 2-course meal, followed by coffee and the cutting and sharing of a specially ordered frozen birthday cake.

To follow, members were treated to a fascinating illustrated lecture by Dr Ruth Waller of the Past Wight Consultancy on Roman to medieval food as enjoyed by the ruling classes, contrasted with what the peasants would survive from.

A set of 4 commemorative bookmarks were produced, featuring the work of local artists Sally Pengelly, Steve Pragnell, Ian Wright and Jill Roe, which were distributed to members.

Isle of Wight Arts Society membership is now open for the next season which begins in September. Application forms are available on the website. www.theartssocietyisleofwight.org.uk.

Prospective new members who come to the June conference on June 7 with a completed application form, downloaded from the website, will be able to enjoy the conference for £5 instead of the usual £10.
