Illinois State Softball announces promotion of Hailey Cole to assistant coach


NORMAL, Ill. – Illinois State softball head coach Tina Kramos announced promotion to graduate assistant Hailey Cole to a full-time assistant coach. Cole assumes the position previously held by Elaine Heflinwho was promoted to first assistant coach under Kramos.

“We are very pleased to announce Hailey Cole as the new assistant coach,” coach Kramos commented. “Hailey is a hard worker with excellent knowledge of the game. I am particularly impressed with her ability to communicate the technical aspects of the game with our student-athletes.”

Cole, an alumnus of the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill and former collegiate softball player, joined the Illinois State softball staff as a graduate assistant in June 2021. She played four seasons with the Tar Heels while earning his bachelor’s degree in communication studies with a minor in education.

While playing softball and maintaining a full course load, Cole was a student assistant in UNC’s sports communications department. She helped write game summaries, create videos, and manage the team’s social media accounts.

After graduating, Cole stayed in North Carolina and worked as a private softball instructor. In this role, she not only taught punching, slapping and defensive techniques, but also developed lesson plans and helped analyze game video.

Cole also played a multi-faceted role in Ashley Burkhardt Training, LLC., as Social Media Coordinator and Skills Instructor. While providing training to athletes at camps and clinics across the country, she also helped the organization maintain a consistent brand image and create a social media plan.

Most recently, as a graduate assistant for Illinois State softball for the 2021-22 season under former head coach Melinda Fischer, Cole helped create training and camp plans for youth, passed the NCAA recruiting exam, oversaw in-game graphics, and assisted with equipment management. .

In her new role as assistant coach, Cole will work primarily with Redbird hitters, but Kramos thinks she’ll be a tremendous asset on the recruiting track as well.
