ICAR Manipur Center and MOMA sign a memorandum of understanding for the promotion of organic agriculture – The Sangai Express

ICAR Center Manipur today signed a Memorandum of Understanding with the Manipur Biological Mission Agency (MOMA), Department of Horticulture and Soil Conservation, in a ceremony held at ICAR Center Manipur, Lamphelpat, Imphal.
The MoU was signed by WOAgri Mission Director K Debdutta Sharma and ICAR NEH Region Director Meghalaya Dr VK Mishra.
According to a statement, under this historic MoU, WOAgri will identify and appoint suitable officers within the Department of Horticulture and Soil Conservation and the Department of Agriculture and suitable persons among its service providers under MOVCDNER.
The statement further informed that the ICAR Manipur center will provide advanced training to identified individuals on scientific and emerging technologies in organic agriculture to bridge the knowledge and skills gap and make the trainees more competent for the implementation of organic agriculture. MOVCDNER.
This is an effort to effectively promote organic farming in the state, the statement added.
In his presidential address, Dr. Vinay Kumar Mishra, Director of ICAR Research Complex for NEH Region, Meghalaya said that the North East will be organic by default, but this is actually due to the wisdom of farmers that has been passed down. from generation to generation. generation. He said Manipur has many unique GI crops and efforts should be made to explore the export potential of these crops in the international market. He also mentioned that this MoU is an initiative to provide the appropriate technology and scientific practices to ensure the success of organic agriculture.
Dr. I Meghachandra Singh, co-director of the ICAR Manipur center mentioned that the center has been helping and supporting the agri-horti and allied departments in the state and also trying its best to solve the problems of the farmers in the state.
Under the program, agricultural inputs, namely a bee box, honey extractor, water pump, agricultural tool kits and nanourea were distributed to farmers and beneficiaries of STSC and MIDH programs .
During the reception, K Debdutta Sharma said MOMA is an implementing agency of Mission Organic Value Chain Development for North Eastern Region (MOVCDNER).
Affirming that MOMA has been working to make certain areas of the state a hub for organic production, he added that MOMA is taking technological support and input from ICAR in the implementation of MOVCDNER.
Other dignitaries present include Addl’s chief secretary, P Vaiphei; Honey Chara, Director, Department of Horticulture and Soil Conservation; Pramod Choudhary, Secretary General, Bharatiya Agro-Economics Research Center among others.
