Congressional Choir Announces Relaunch of American Youth Choir with New ConductorThe Congressional Chorus has announced the relaunch of its American Youth Chorus with new Artistic Director Jonathon Hampton. The American Youth Chorus is part of the Congressional Chorus organization, a multigenerational group whose mission is to inspire people to embrace a shared humanity through choral music. Membership in AYC is currently offered to children in grades 4-8. Children are exposed to all types of music, from classical to soulful and everything in between. The National Museum of African American History and Culture names the Gallery of Military History after General Colin Powell

The late General Colin Powell (1937-2021) was celebrated at the National Museum of African American History and Culture with a dedication ceremony. The museum named its military gallery after the decorated general and the first African American to serve as Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, reflecting Powell’s longstanding support for the museum and his long-time service. in the USA. Powell’s story is displayed in the museum’s gallery alongside objects he donated.

The Choral Arts Society hires a new conductorThe 60-year-old DC choral organization, The Choral Arts Society, has hired Dr. Jace Saplan to conduct as artistic director. Dr. Saplan is a polyglot who is fluent in eight languages. A native of Hawaii, he is an Obama Leader for Asia-Pacific through the Obama Foundation for the year 2022-2023. His vision is to democratize classical music. According to the Choral Arts Society, no choral organization at this level has attempted to do what Saplan is trying, using the classical canon as an entry point and working strategically in new world works by fresh and diverse composers like Zanaida Robles and Jorge Vidales.

Levine Music CEO Receives AwardLevine Music President and CEO Jeffery Tribble, Jr. received the Outstanding Visionary Leadership Award at the 37th Annual Mayor’s Arts Awards. “A Night of DC Stars” celebrated Tribble, along with 13 other honorees who were celebrated for their contributions to DC’s creative community. Tribble recently celebrated its first year as head of Levine Music, the region’s leading music education organization.
