Abbotsholme Arts Society is delighted to present stunning young pianist Victor Lim for a captivating program featuring music by Bach, Granados, Scriabin, Grieg and Ravel. Following his appearance in BBC Young Musician of the Year in 2012, Victor established himself as one of the most versatile and creative musicians of his generation.

Described as a pianist with “great possibilities of nuances and perfect flexibility” (Revista Arta), Victor Lim stands out as one of the most versatile and creative musicians of his generation.

After his first public appearance on the BBC Young Musician of the Year TV show in 2012, Victor has performed worldwide in the UK, France, Germany, Austria, Norway, Denmark, Romania , China, Singapore and South Korea. In 2020, Victor performed Beethoven’s Piano Concerto No. 5 “Emperor” with the NMH Symphony Orchestra under the direction of Eivind Aadland and will release his first professional solo recording in 2022.

A musician with an indefatigable curiosity for all musical genres, Victor’s repertoire ranges from Rameau to Kapustin and his interest in new music has led him to recent collaborations with Graham Fitkin and Stephen Hough.

Victor’s affinity with Beethoven’s music has been recognized with two awards from the Beethoven Piano Society of Europe, while he is known to have a great personal passion for the works of Robert Schumann.

Victor combines his active solo career with his great enthusiasm for chamber music. He has collaborated with Eszter Haffner and Susie Mészáros, and currently maintains close duo partnerships with cellists Sandra Lied Haga, Wayne Kwon and soprano Teng Xiang Ting.

Victor was the founding member of the Louko Piano Trio which won every chamber music award while at the Royal Northern College of Music.

A strong advocate for community music, Victor is the senior creative coordinator of Fingertips ASBL and has played a key role in managing several projects including ‘Tune-in Nepal’ and ‘Goldberg by 32 pianists’.

An experienced educator, Victor is an Associate Artist of the International Academy for Young Musicians, a Leverhulme Fellow of Pro Corda, and former Coordinator of the Classical Music Academy at Millfield Summer School.

Victor trained at Wells Cathedral School with John Byrne and Richard Ormrod, then at the Royal Northern College of Music with Graham Scott, Jeremy Young and Murray McLachlan as an ABRSM Scholar.

Awards from Help Musicians UK and the Countess of Munster Musical Trust allowed Victor to continue his studies at the Royal Academy of Music in London with Michael Dussek, where he obtained a Dip.RAM and received the Christian Carpenter Prize for the best final recital. .

After completing the Artist Diploma Program at the Norwegian Academy of Music, Victor is now continuing his studies with Kathryn Stott at the RNCM where he is kindly supported by the Leverhulme Scholarship.

The performance will be at 7.30pm on Saturday 22nd January at Abbotsholme School, Rocester, Uttoxeter, Staffordshire.

Abbotsholme Arts Society was established in 1968 by Gordon Clark, Director of Music at Abbotsholme School. The first concert was given by oboist Leon Goossens on September 24 of that year.

There have been over a thousand concerts, films, readings, lectures and talks by many of the best in their field around the world over the next five decades. Abbotsholme, a mixed day/boarding school founded in 1889, is beautifully situated in the center of its own estate in the Dove Valley, between Ashbourne and Uttoxeter.
