Artists from across the region submitted over 70 works of art to be judged for cash prizes.

the work of Shelby Sabelli, "Caroline Piedmont."
The work of Rosie Little, "Nature Observatory."

Artists were invited to show their most recent work, taking a fresh look at the world around them.

The work of Bethlehem Reinhardt, "Jungle."

The theme of this show is very open, which makes it possible to grasp a wide variety of subjects.

the work of Gene Tennison, "Mountain flowers."

Even after a year of confinement due to the global pandemic, the artworks in the exhibition are bright and uplifting, showing that the participating artists have chosen to see the beauty and color of the world around them.

There are plenty of landscapes and wildlife reflected in this show, perhaps seeking a more comforting view of the world outside the confines of home.

Artists entered a variety of media: oil, acrylic and pastel paints, photography, mixed media and collage.

The public is invited to meet the participating artists at a public reception on Saturday, June 19, from 6 to 8 p.m. Prizes will be awarded at 7 p.m.

This is a free event and dress is casual. Winners will then be posted on the Southern Arts Society website and Facebook page. The exhibition is presented from June 9 to July 30. The works of art in the exhibition are available for sale.

The Southern Arts Society Gift Shop and Gallery is located at 301 N. Piedmont Avenue, at the intersection of Piedmont and Battleground Avenues, in the historic Southern Railway Depot.
